October 13, 1965…At EMI's Abbey Road Studios in London, the Beatles recorded "Drive My Car" in four takes and completed the track with overdubs at the same session. In a case of role reversal, Paul McCartney played lead guitar on the song and George Harrison played bass guitar, mimicking the bass-heavy sound generated on Otis Redding's "Respect," which George recently had been admiring. According to McCartney, "'Drive my car' was an old blues euphemism for sex."
