February 1, 1964…The governor of Indiana, Matthew Walsh, declared the record "Louie Louie" by the Kingsmen was pornographic. Claiming it made his "ears tingle" to listen to it, Walsh requested that the Indiana Broadcasters Association ban the record from airplay on all radio stations in the state. Max Firetag, the song's publisher, offered $1000 to anyone who could prove that the song contained obscene lyrics. After extensive study, the FBI concluded that the lyrics of this version of the song are so garbled, they are unintelligible.
