A welcome resting stop for passers-by since 1834, J. Huston Tavern began life as a down-to-earth boarding house and restaurant operated by its namesake, Joseph Huston. Huston sold his business in 1858 but, despite changing hands numerous times, it happily stood the test of time, and is now maintained by Missouri State Parks (testament to its important historic status). Swing by for the house special – the ‘famous tavern-fried chicken’ – or comforting favorites like pot pie.
