October 4, 1965…In El Paso, U.S. Customs officials arrested and jailed Johnny Cash as he returned from Mexico with more than 1,000 prescription narcotics and amphetamines hidden in his guitar case. He was released a day later after he pled guilty to a misdemeanor, accepted a 30-day suspended sentence and paid a $1,000 fine.
