Opened in 1926 during a construction boom in Kansas City, the hotel operated as the President Hotel until it closed in 1980. During its history, it served as the headquarters for the Republican National Convention, which nominated Herbert Hoover for president in 1928. The hotel's Drum Room lounge famously attracted performers from all over the country including Benny Goodman and Frank Sinatra. The hotel reopened in the 2000s as a Hilton hotel.
